I can't believe the time!

I'm astonished how time has flown and how negligent I've been about this blog.  I have since finished up another semester of school at the Academy of Art since my last post.  The two class were Color & Design and Anatomy for Artists.
 I had a great time with both of the classes and learned a lot.  I haven't posted much work because classes were quite demanding and I still have some images that need to be scanned from my Color & Design class.  For our final in Color & Design we had to complete a mandala...with desaturated colors and a strong focal point.  The image had to be well balanced between simple and complex design elements as well as being unified in color harmony and design.  I will post the image in the next few days...I had such a great time doing this that I'm planning on creating more with specific themes....stay tuned!

On the home front, the boys are well on their way with Nick transferring to SUNY Potsdam in August and Patrick starting Jefferson Community College.  It's going to be big changes for all of us!  I'm very proud of both of them, but a little sad to see them go.  I'll have to keep myself busy with my artwork.....

The Summer Arts Festival sponsored by the North Country Arts Council will be held again this year August 14th in downtown Watertown, NY.

Classes are finished!

I'm so excited....classes are finally over and I'm looking forward to a break. Next semester will be anatomy and color, line & design. I finshed my bust for my figure modeling class and my last two drawings for the figure drawing class. What a relief....

Now I can work on some of the projects that have been floating around in my head all semester...and get to some pastel painting. I haven't touched the pastels in too long...it'll be interesting to see if my drawing class has improved my painting. Anyway, here are my last assignments ...and Happy Holidays!

Only 5 days of class left and the semester is over!

It's been a busy couple of months and I can't believe that much time has passed since I last updated my blog...bad blogger, bad blogger. Anyway, here are some of the homework assignments that have been keeping me so busy. We're finishing up this week, only two more drawings and a clay bust to go!

Finished Homework Assignment

Wow, this one took some time to do and still needs work. This is the homework assignment from this past week and is a copy Bernini's sculpture of David.

This week we're continuing our work in anatomy and concentrating on arms and legs. The assignment is to do another copy of a master's work, this time it's Raphael. I'll post something as soon as it's finished.

Speaking of sculpture, I haven't posted anything from my figure modeling class. Our past weeks' assignment have been a controposto pose (weight shifted to one leg) which has taken some time to say the least. The sculpture is built on an armature and stands about 2ft. tall. Also, we had to make a mouth too...so here they are.

On the lighter side, my hubby George had his 39th birthday on the 23rd. We ate cake at the 'rents and made sure the table and plates were decorated transformer style! Complete with transformer masks...George wore four of them at the same time.

Another week gone by and here's the latest drawing, this isn't a homework assignment...just an exercise. This is a copy of Michelangelo’s Libyan Sybil.

Art School

I'm really having a great time with my art classes this semester...figure drawing and figure modeling. The sculpture is new for me and a bit awkward, but the figure drawing is great. There's something about being able to accurately render the human figure that 's really inspiring and uplifting! Here's a piece I did for the last module and couple from this module. I have my sites set on getting out in the public eye and beginning my illustration career before finishing school and dedicating as much of my time to that as possible.

We just came back from Albacon (sci-fi and fantasy writer's convention in Albany, NY) and had a great time. The event could have been organized a little better and the website needs work, but the wealth of information from the panelists and guests was well worth going. We also met some really fantastic people in the bar...that just happened to be from my hubbie's hometown, teach at his school, shared my husband's name, and is a published author. Strange thing was that they weren't even there for the convention and they were staying in the hotel next door and only came over to the bar for drinks! There are no coincidences in this life, we were bound to cross their paths. They were really great people (Hi Pam and George!) and I hope we get to see them again sometime soon...

Back in Art School!

It's almost the end of September and school has started once again. I'm currently taking Figure Modeling, which is a new experience for me because I've never worked with clay before. I'm also taking Figure Drawing, which is challenging but I'm learning a lot. Another new experience for me this fall is the workshop I'm giving at the local YMCA, I'm teaching a pastel workshop to a small group of children. We'll be working on landscape paintings this week!

The Zoo To Do benefit for the Thompson Park Zoo is right around the bend October 3rd, 2009 from 6:30 - 9:30 at the Flower Memorial Library. Adirondack chairs, painted by local artists will be sold and part of a silent auction during the benefit. Here is the chair I've painted for the benefit...I wish I could be there but I'll be in Old Forge for the Plein Aire Event that weekend.
