Syracuse Street Painting 2010

George and I spent yesterday in downtown Syracuse for the NewTimes Street Painting "Sidewalk Art Contest". I couldn't believe the turnout, there were a lot of fantastic artists, including many teens and young kids.  The weather was also great...sunny but not too hot...the trees offered really great shade.    Thanks to Catherine Perry of West Eaton, NY for sending me such a great photo of my finished piece, George and I forgot our camera, so most of the pictures are from his cell phone.

Final piece....

Website update and new look!

I just finished updating my website with a brand new design and a more comprehensive gallery.  I'm featuring my "Dandelion" mandala as part of my logo and am planning on a series of them very soon.  I also have the street painting festival in Syracuse to get ready for as well as the street painting exhibit at the Summer Arts Festival in Watertown, August 14th.

I've updated my blog as well and now you can subscribe to it via email :)

Elmira Street Painting Festival

I just got back from the Elmira SPF and it was a great time....and the weather was beautiful!  I chose to be a part of the Mark Twain gallery and created a portrait from a piece of art I found online.  I wish I could credit the artist, but could never find artist's name.  I added the imagery above the head to make it a little more interesting.  The first day of painting was hot until George brought the canopy from the car...what a lifesaver that was!  It dropped the temperature on the asphalt significantly and made it a lot easier to paint.  I finished the face the first day and the second day worked on the jacket, cigar and smoke.  I managed to finish pretty early and spent the rest of the day lounging and walking around to look at the artists' work.  I won Honorable Mention this year which was fantastic considering only one cash prize was given and the other three awards were honorable mentions.  I was just happy to have been a part of this festival for the third year and to meet all of the great people passing by....which for me, is the best part....and petting all of the dogs!  Here are some pictures from the day...enjoy!!

A Prayer for the Gulf

I received this in the Susun Weed newsletter yesterday and thought I'd share. If you ever get a chance read Dr. Emoto's books...they'll change your perception of reality. Anyway, here is a the blurb from the newsletter and the prayer.

Blessing the Water - set an intention of love and healing

Dr. Emoto - author scientist, and humanitarian - has shared a brief, yet power prayer and we are passing it along here as a focal point, a space of conscious creation allowing us to move past fear, judgment and retribution into Unity, Harmony and Wholeness. This prayer is structured using Ho'oponopono and is directed initially at WATER - the element connecting ALL Life on the planet. Water ... the carrier of Spirit and the flow-er of Love!!!

Dr. Masaru Emoto's Healing Prayer for the Gulf:

"I send the energy of love and gratitude to the water and all the living creatures in the Gulf of Mexico and its surroundings.

To the whales, dolphins, pelicans, fish, shellfish, plankton, coral, algae, and all living creatures . . .

I am sorry.
Please forgive me.
Thank you.
I love you. "

We are passing this request to people who we believe might be willing to participate in this prayer, to set an intention of love and healing that is so large, so overwhelming that we can perform a miracle in the Gulf of Mexico.

We are not powerless. We are powerful. Our united energy, speaking this prayer daily...multiple times daily....can literally shift the balance of destruction that is happening.

We don't have to know how......we just have to recognize that the power of love is greater than any power active in the Universe today.

Please join us in oft repeating this healing prayer of of Dr. Emoto's. And feel free to copy and paste this to send it around the planet. Let's take charge, and do our own clean up!

I can't believe the time!

I'm astonished how time has flown and how negligent I've been about this blog.  I have since finished up another semester of school at the Academy of Art since my last post.  The two class were Color & Design and Anatomy for Artists.
I had a great time with both of the classes and learned a lot.  I haven't posted much work because classes were quite demanding and I still have some images that need to be scanned from my Color & Design class.  For our final in Color & Design we had to complete a mandala...with desaturated colors and a strong focal point.  The image had to be well balanced between simple and complex design elements as well as being unified in color harmony and design.  I will post the image in the next few days...I had such a great time doing this that I'm planning on creating more with specific themes....stay tuned!

On the home front, the boys are well on their way with Nick transferring to SUNY Potsdam in August and Patrick starting Jefferson Community College.  It's going to be big changes for all of us!  I'm very proud of both of them, but a little sad to see them go.  I'll have to keep myself busy with my artwork.....
